Goofing Off is one of those cards that seem to confuse people when they first see it – sort of a “what’s the point” kind of reaction. While having straightforward game text, its uses are good but subtle.
At 0 cost and not being tied to any specific keywords, this event can fit easily into any deck. Its uses become apparent in its ability to cycle through your deck faster, and its knack for allowing double moves more easily. So, how does it help you cycle through your deck? You can think of this card as a disposable card – playing it and getting it out of your hand helps you draw more cards. This is especially handy in large decks where drawing cards faster to get what you need is extremely important. Likewise, in a villain deck, where you don’t want a lot of hero cards, this basically reduces the number of possible hero cards you might have in hand from turn to turn as you can use this card on any turn and on any character – thereby helping you to draw your villain cards more quickly.
As for allowing double moves more easily, Goofing Off can make your villain opponent commit to a blocking strategy, spending resources and assigning adversaries, only to have you un-assign your key characters and move again. Or if they surprise you with an obstacle that you just can’t get around, back someone off and try to move again.
Besides, this card comes from a fun episode!
